Matt Mellen

Matt founded Ecohustler Online Magazine in 2009 after world leaders flushed The Kyoto Protocol down the loo at COP 15 (UN climate conference). Appalled at the state of the world and the gross dereliction of duty of those in power he set out to amplify alternative ideas and approaches to environmentalism. Specifically, seeing an ecological future as a huge opportunity - not a sacrifice. Professionally, Matt is a communicator and strategist specialising in movement building, public affairs and environmental campaigns. He has worked on flagship programmes led by Nobel Prize winner Wangari Maathai and HRH Prince Charles, with major corporations and the United Nations and for organisations including: BioRegional, Global Action Plan and Compassion in World Farming. He has a degree in Biology from the University of Bristol and a first class MSc in Environmental Technology from Imperial College, London. He is a Global Change Ambassador for Round Table Global and an associate advisor to 38 Degrees.

Money, information, energy and bullshit

It is well know that if you spread bullshit around it helps things grow. If you pile it up, it stinks. Of course, the same is true of money, but as money concentrates in one place it not only stinks it also corrupts.

A simple solution to the deficit - legalize the weed!

A simple solution to the deficit - legalize the weed!

The main problem with prohibiting drugs is that it immediately criminalize the millions of citizens who, in most cases harmlessly, use them. Also, society loses the £5 billion in revenue available through their taxation. Worse of all though, we hand this massive global trade to the black market. This hands vast wealth to criminal gangs, who are then empowered to commit far worse crimes such as arms smuggling and human trafficking.

Indian Veg is an oasis in London. This place was not created to take your money. The whole establishment is a propaganda machine designed to convert you to vegetarianism. Luckily, the main tool in their campaigning arsenal, is the premise that if you give people good, healthy, very tasty vegetarian food; they will choose to eat it.

Turbo Charge Your Love This Valentine’s Day

Valentine’s Day is the culturally appointed moment when we affirm our love and appreciation for our partner. En mass we get amorous and consummate our passion. Naturally capitalism feasts on this kind of mass behaviour. In today’s world Valentine’s Day comes with a price tag and the costs are not just financial.

Merry Apocalypse

Christmas is a time for family, tradition, good food and coming together to remember what is important in life. Right? Wrong! Christmas has been hijacked by the Dark Side and now is ‘the retail event of the year’ or, put another way, the peak of the annual consumption calendar, or, put another way, exactly what is killing the biosphere.

It is time to wake up and freak the fuck out. BP and the American government want you to sit tight and imagine that this environmental catastrophe is being fixed by responsible people. Don’t worry. Keep calm and carry on. Do not adjust your television. Go back to sleep.
