David is a long-time animal welfare campaigner with a particular concern for the welfare of farmed animals during their rearing and at slaughter, and with the experience and suffering of animals reared for shooting and so-called ‘sport’. He has been actively involved in a wide range of campaigns, including that leading to the successful prohibition of gamebird shooting on Welsh public land. He has been involved in campaigns to ensure that CCTV is used in all slaughterhouses and is currently involved in the campaign to end the proliferation of intensive poultry units in Wales. Previously, he has been involved in campaigns to protect special areas of conservation in Cardigan Bay against oil and gas development and scallop dredging, to bring an end to puppy farming and the sale of puppies and kittens in pet shops, and to prevent the long-term tethering of horses. David is a qualified psychologist and also has a background in natural sciences.
