Greta Thunberg - The Top 5 Speeches

A collection of the best videos of Greta in action - an incredible child driving change at an extraordinary time

Greta Thunberg first started her campaign in August 2018 when she sat outside the Swedish Parliament on ‘SKOLSTREJK FOR KLIMATET’. She sat there every day for 3 weeks, and then every Friday thereafter. She vows to continue school striking every Friday until Swedish policies change to reduce emissions to keep a global temperature rise this century well below 2 degrees Celsius, i.e. in line with the Paris Agreement.

A girl who speaks frankly, in black and white, in a calm and deliberate way, outlining the need to change the future before it is too late, repeatedly stressing for the politicians to listen to the scientists, to put aside their differences and to act now, to react to this emergency situation that has been created by decades of inaction.

Her first speech in December 2018 at the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) conference, known as COP24, addressed the United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres and UN Climate Change Executive Secretary Patricia Espinosa.

She asks the people from around the world to realise our political leaders have failed us. “...we are facing an existential threat and there is no time to continue down this road of madness.” She condemns global inaction in the face of catastrophic climate change, “..change is coming whether you like it or not.”

After the COP 24 conference Greta spoke at TEDx Stockholm on 16th December.

An amazingly delivered talk about her and how this all started, the need for change, the lack of action... “I only speak when I think it’s necessary, now is one of those moments.”

In January Greta attended the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting in Davos, attended by global leaders from the financial, political and media sectors to discuss how to cooperate on the challenges ahead.

“Either we choose to change, or we don’t. Either we prevent temperatures from rising above 1.5 degrees (Celsius), or we don’t. Either we avoid a chain reaction of unravelling ecosystems, or we don’t. That’s as black or white as it gets.”

At the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) in Brussels in February 2019 Greta stood up with other school striking activists, demanding leaders to unite behind the science.

“ Political leaders have wasted decades through denial and inaction.” The faces of the committee behind Greta portray a grim picture of guilt, disbelief, shame, exposure...

One of her most emotive speeches, addressing MEPs in Strasbourg at the EU Parliament in April 2019.

“...I come from Sweden and I want you to panic, I want you to act as if the house was on fire…” “if our house was falling apart, you wouldn’t hold 3 emergency Brexit summits and no emergency summit about the breakdown of the climate…“ I beg you, please do not fail on this.”

Greta Thunberg continues with her campaign, she vows never to give up, power is with the people.
